- Investigations & Remediation of Landslide following Cyclone Gabrielle - Waipatiki.Hawke's Bay Geotech was engaged by the client to develop a solution to a large slip that occurred in front of their dwelling during Cyclone Gabrielle. Significant investigations and design work were undertaken to develop an economical and resilient solution that also suited the final look the client wanted. The report was completed in 3 weeks and the result was a palisade (in ground) wall to stabilise the bank along with a portion that acted as retaining wall to allow the client to reinstate the flat land in front of the dwelling. The bank in front of the wall was remediated and then seeded to protect from further erosion. We assisted the client in organising a contractor and were involved through to the completion of the project ~4 months after our initial consultation.

After - Investigations & Remediation of a Failed Retaining Wall following Cyclone Gabrielle - Napier Hill.Hawke's Bay Geotech met the client on site as part of our scoping work to discuss the project and what would likely be involved, before providing a proposal for the works. Following our engagement we promptly began the investigations of the failed wall, assessment of the ground conditions, and preparation of the geotechnical report & soil engineering parameters. Partnering with structural designers, a resilient remediation option was developed which involved tiebacks to reduce the required drilling depths. We were again involved during the construction of the wall, undertaking monitoring and inspections for the geotechnical works, and eventually seeing the project through to completion ~7 months after our initial consultation.
Before
After - Residential Dwelling in High Vulnerability Liquefaction Area - Napier.Hawke's Bay Geotech were engaged to undertake investigations for a residential dwelling to be located in an area susceptible to liquefaction. Site investigations, including specialised CPT testing, were undertaken to assess the potential for liquefaction at the site. The geotechnical report was issued within 3 weeks of our initial consultation and a suitable foundation option was recommended along with a 0.4m deep ground improvement to replace the topsoil and weak soils that were present. We were also involved in the construction monitoring of the ground improvement, signing off on the suitably completed works and allowing for the project to get out of the ground and progress with the pouring of the slab.
